Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton
Another raffle gift. I’m sorry to say I really did not like this one and I skimmed through the last quarter of the book just to get it finished.
While I agree with what many other reviewers say in that the MMC was a rapist dick, that wasn’t my main gripe (I read some of the reviews beforehand, so I knew it was coming). My secondary gripe was with the FMC… she was, to put it bluntly, stupid (thankfully, she seems aware of that fact. That… is really her only saving grace). Eventually the FMC acknowledges her own stupidity, but then she goes on to admit that she will likely do nothing to change that. Ok, so she accepts her voluntary dipshit-ism and as a result will likely not grow as a character, moving on.
My main gripe with this book was the writing. I hate to say it like this, but the writing is horrible. Sentence structure was not great, there were grammar errors everywhere and it just read like it was written by a teenager… if that was the authors intent, well done! If not… well, I’m sorry. The underlying story could have been really great and I’m sad we didn’t get more of that.
